In terrestrial vertebrates, sound localization is mostly based on comparing the signals arriving at each ear (interaural time and level differences: ITD & ILD). However, the speed of sound is much higher in water (low ITD) and fish barely cast an acoustic shadow (low ILD). How, then, can fish hear sound direction?

Find out in our latest paper, The mechanism for directional hearing in fish.
